ABOUT: As always, this year’s play is based on the story of Esther—with two twists. It is modeled after The Sound of Music and— well, several months ago, as we were discussing creating a spoof of The Sound of Music, one of us mistakenly mentioned Fiddler on the Roof and it got lodged in our minds. Afterward, several of us began talking about the upcoming play in Fiddler terms. So the playwright watched both films to see which direction to take and The Sound of Music won. But the seed was planted and she couldn’t quite reconcile not including the colorful Tevye and Golde, the father and mother from Fiddler on the Roof.
So here we are. We present the story of Esther in a Sound of Music setting, narrated by wandering Jews, Tevye & Golde who take time out of their own spiel to wax eloquent and pontificate about the age-old Jewish dilemma.
NOTE: It is recommended that prior to the performance you watch The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof if you've never seen them.
